Calling all reality television fans…your next obsession is officially here! Netflix’s new series Young, Famous & African follows a group of high-rolling, (young-ISH) celebrities from the motherland as they bask in their affluence and create unnecessary drama amongst the friend group. In other words, the perfect dose of escapism that we all need and deserve right now.

For those of us well-versed in the not-so-real world of reality television, it’s been refreshing to see an uptick in representation in this genre in the past few years. Shows like Shahs of Sunset and Bling Empire have proved that there is absolutely a market for non-white reality shows that follow the 1% and their absurdly fascinating lives. And it's safe to say that the African edition of this formula has been a long time coming.

The entertainment value of this new series is undeniable, and although some of the wigs and make up choices are questionable, there are definitely many moments in this binge worthy first season that had us laughing out loud, clutching our pearls and just overall being thoroughly entertained. So here is a full rundown of your new reality faves, a cast that perfectly fills the Africa-shaped void in our television lineup.

Khanyi Mbau

The South African actress, television personality and artist is the pot-stirrer in the friend group that we all love. Although it's clear that she cares about her friends and ultimately wants to bring everyone together, she’s definitely guilty of inciting drama and certainly doesn’t shy away from some high-quality confessional shade!

Diamond Platnumz

The Tanzanian mega-star musician, and self-proclaimed player is an exciting, and at times unintentionally hilarious, addition to the cast. It’s grade A enjoyment watching him hit on his newfound crush, splurge in ways only superstars can, and navigate through co-parenting with his ex-wife (and cast mate!)

Zari the Boss Lady

This Ugandan musician and businesswoman lives up to her name 100% of the time. With an enviable ability to stay calm under pressure and never ever be intimidated by anyone, she is kind of impossible not to love!

Swanky Jerry

This Nigerian celebrity stylist will definitely become your new favorite fashion muse. Staying true to the Naija ways we all know and love, he embodies a ‘go big or go home’ spirit with every single look he wears. It’s nothing short of impressive.

Nadia Nakai

The Zimbabwean rapper and television personality is instantly likable and as she loves to say ‘a whole vibe’. Loyal to her friends and never hesitant to voice her opinion, she’s the one we find most reminiscent of our favorite bottomless brunch partner in crime.

Annie Macaulay–Idibia

The Nigerian actress (she’s been in more than 200 movies!) and model impressively juggles her career, motherhood and the challenges that come with being married to celebrity musician 2face Idibia. Her no-nonsense personality and inability to mince words is all a part of her charm.

Andile Ncube

The South African producer and television personality is the drama inciter in this friend group that we never saw coming. Despite this, it’s hard not to like his easy going personality and uncanny ability to smooth-talk his way through any situation.

Naked DJ

The South African radio personality and DJ takes on the challenging role of mediator and peacemaker in a group of large, opinionated personalities with limited success. He does however deliver some quality one-liners and moments of sensible advice.

Kayleigh Schwark

The South African football player, fitness model and television personality is the consistent voice of reason in the friend group…except maybe when it comes to her own relationship with Naked DJ. Despite her calm approach, she definitely stands her own ground among this colorful group.
