As the vaccines continue to roll out around the world and we inch closer to some semblance of normal life, one thing that has undoubtedly kept many of us sane is the return of many of our favorite sporting leagues. Although Zoom-fatigue is a real and widespread thing, online gatherings don't always have to be synonymous with work meetings. Enter the virtual watch party!
Here’s what you’ll need:
1) Enthusiastic friends and family
Pick a sporting event and spread the word. Team jerseys, (friendly) trash talking, vuvuzelas and facepaint are highly encouraged!
2) Plan the logistics
Get the group chat going and make sure everyone knows what platform the partying will take place on. Send the invite and remind everyone to mark their calendars and check their internet connection.
3) Signature drink
What’s a good party without a signature drink?! Get creative and invent a delicious libation for the occasion. Share the recipe with everyone before the party so they too can play bartender for the big game.
4) The drinking game
Now that the drinks are on deck, create a fun drinking game to truly get the party started. Did a team score a goal - take a shot! Did the ref call a foul - sip that drink!
5) Food, food and more food
This is pretty self-explanatory - you’ll need all the appetizers to complete the party vibe. And why not spice up game day by having an appetizer competition? Challenge the crew to drop their photos in the group chat...most instagrammable platter wins!
6) Halftime show
Once you hit that halfway point in the game, this is the perfect time to check in with everyone. Send a search party for anyone who dropped off the virtual merrymaking, crank some music for a mini-dance party, and prep your second half food plate while you listen to the competitive banter and amateur game analysis.
7) Keep the party going
As the game winds down, take advantage of the fact that everyone is gathered, and if they’ve been playing the drinking game right, are in a great mood! Take the time to catch up, share a laugh and console the supporters of the losing team.
