Shopping with purpose: The platform connecting consumers to Black-owned brands

The power of the Black dollar is more than just an abstract concept. A recent Nielsen study found that since the year 2000 Black Americans’ buying power has more than doubled to a staggering $2.1 trillion. Additionally, estimates of the spending power of the wider African diaspora fall in the hundreds of billions. In other words, there is real power and influence that we as a community can wield when deciding where to spend our hard-earned money (just ask Target! 😏)

But the reality is that this influence cannot be truly maximized without intentionality, both individually, and as a collective. So, in an effort to make that intentionality a little more accessible, this Black Business Month we've curated a selection of platforms that have done the heavy lifting by bringing Black-owned businesses together into one marketplace.

The Official Black Wall Street describes itself as “the largest platform dedicated to helping consumers discover Black-owned businesses and providing Black founders with the resources needed to thrive.” Founded by award-winning entrepreneur Mandy Bowman, OBWS has been leading by example for over a decade, providing a powerful platform for Black-owned businesses across multiple industries to showcase their products and services.

Happy shopping!
