Earlier this year we shone the spotlight on the hottest new music genre that is taking the world by storm - Amapiano. With origins in South Africa, this melodic music that pulls from a rich history of Kwaito and House music, has continued its global meteoric rise. Taking over TikTok in particular, signature dance moves associated with Amapiano like the “pouncing cat” and phrases like “Amapiano is a lifestyle” have continued to consistently go viral. We also love that in a historically male-dominated industry, many of Amapiano’s most popular artists propelling its global exposure are Black women like the talented DJ duo TxC.
